ABOUT
DAVE
David
Richichi grew up in Bellmore, Long Island on the Great South Bay, around
the corner from Twin Lakes and a bicycle ride away from Jones Beach
and Wantagh Piers. Some of his fondest memories of childhood are of
fishing in these places. From the beginning Dave was hooked on fishing.
His father used to come down to the lake at midnight to bring his son
home.
David has fished all over the world, from dolphin in Hawaii to marlin
in Cape Hatteras to tuna in San Diego. He has traveled to Key West to
catch a state record wahoo and driven North to ice fish in the winter.
He has worked as a fishing guide in Upstate New York and Northeastern
Pennsylvania, but his passion has always been the waters in and around
Long Island.
David moved to New York City in the early 80's, where he studied illustration,
photography and creative writing at the School of Visual Arts. He worked
as a freelance illustrator/photographer and in 1986 he formed a design
studio, with his wife, Robin. This design studio creates business communication
graphics for Fortune 500 companies. In 1996, David decided to join his
passion for fishing with his knowledge of writing and photography, to
create "Fishing Long Island with Dave", an on-line magazine dedicated
to Long Island fishermen, located at www.ScreamingReel.com.
Since then he has grown the magazine into a daily publication with 3
writer and a huge following. Dave highlights the week with first-hand,
"Special Reports" on a variety of boats...these reports include full
color photos (which he takes himself) and field tests, written in a
humorous, honest style. This style and the attractive design, draw a
range of readers that consist of people looking for beginner information
to the no-nonsense, hard core fishermen.
He and his staff maintain direct contact with their readers, receiving
e-mail daily asking for recommendations and advice. Through use of an
extensive mailing list, readers receive regular updates which they use
to plan their upcoming fishing trips.
Dave knows most every Captain from Montauk point to Sheepshead Bay,
from Orient Point to Brielle, New Jersey. He has written reports on
surfcasting, charter boats and local party boats, as well as freshwater
reviews and through the years has earned an excellent reputation. Dave
has appeared in the New York Times, The Fisherman and in 1999 began
writing a column for Newsday.com.
