Oceanside, NY - South Nassau Communities Hospital will host its Chris
Larkin Memorial Fishing Tournament on Saturday, July 21, 2001. More
than 200 boats are expected to participate and compete for prizes, making
South
Nassau's event the largest charity tournament in the northeast. We are
pleased to announce that Oceanside resident Dave Wygoda is chairing
the Tournament. Mr. Wygoda brings us many years of experience, having
run the largest Shark Tournament in the northeast for more than 15 years.
The day of fishing kicks off at 5:30 a.m. with a weigh-in deadline of
7 p.m. The top eight catches in the following categories - fluke, bluefish,shark,
tuna and striped bass - will receive prizes. A rain date is scheduled
for Sunday, July 22, 2001. There will be two divisions within the tournament:
Inshore Division - covering Fluke, Bluefish, and Striped Bass. Entry
Fee - $75 Prizes - First Place: $500 for each category plus non-cash
prizes Second Place: $300 for each category plus non-cash prizes Third
through Eighth Place: Non-cash prizes Offshore Division - Covering Tuna
and Shark Entry Fee - $150 Prizes: First Place through Third Place on
a point system Shark: 1 point per pound Tuna: 2 points per pound First
Place: $3,000 Second Place: $2,000 Third Place: Non-cash prizes A captain's
meeting will be held on Friday, July 20 at Guy Lombardo Marina, Freeport.
The Council will hold a free barbecue for the captains and crew to be
followed by instructions on tournament guidelines (captain or one crew
member must attend). Following that, an auction will be held, as the
proceeds of this year's tournament will benefit SIBS Place (Survivorship
in Brothers and Sisters). SIBS Place is a prevention and support program
for the siblings of children with cancer and other devastating illnesses.
An awards dinner for the captains and crew will be held following the
