Don't try this if you're not willing to put in a few hours of work. This came to a pick late afternoon one day. I knew they were right off the back of the boat, but line shy. I went into my bag of tricks and pulled out a rabbit.

No, I pulled out 40 pounds of fluoro carbon...made a 10 foot leader and put on a gamakatsu circle hook....got myself a friskie sardine, gave him a blessing and sent him out. That little guy didn't make it twenty feet when a hundred pound yellowfin pounced on him and said bye-bye.

My light two speed, 3.0 Shimano was screaming as I stared down, mumbling to myself, "Stop, fish, stop", thank God for my braided line. The crew had put it on for backing the night before. That fish took me to the knot. Yes, the knot...and stopped.

I was a little tense to say the least. I slowly got back about 200 feet of line, pulling it by hand foot by foot. My drag was set to max with the fish and out he went again to the knot. This time I got back a substanial amount and went back and forth...a foot lost, a foot gained...back and forth for an hour and a half.

I finally brought him in sideways, he was cooked and I was wired to the bone. That is fun to me. The fish has it in his favor for sure, but I won and he was sushi...and I mean that seriously. Wasabi road for you puppy.

My trip was made right there and then. Give the fish a fight when you can and make the odds even. It's alot of fun, at least for this fisherman.
