DAY 4Dave's Long Range Trip on the Excel

Well, it was tuna day at the Alijos Rocks. We battled over 68 yellow fin, with tuna up to 90 lbs. and then some. Rods peeling line off to the max...arms and back pulling in one at a time at a pace to each individual's style. What a great time!

Let's talk clothing...shorts. That's it! The sun was giving me the deep fry, if you get my drift. The fish on deck never stay in the sun for more than a minute, the mates have them on ice in a heart beat. I mean the deep freeze! All are filleted, bagged, tagged and put away. The mates were humming today...they do not cut lines on this boat...they can untangle a spider's web! I saw it all day. If not for the mates, at least 30 of these fish would have been lost!

I even saw the Captain dive under the boat to untangle a caught line. Now, in my eyes that is an extreme...but these boys are extreme, in their jobs to help you out. Tell them Mo, how us Easterners fish...and Dave is one great gaffer, when Dave hits a fish it is gaffed for sure. Smell the coffee, these guys get my four gold stars.

By the by, 3 big yellow tails and 2 nice wahoo were also caught...a picture perfect day...again! That night we had sushi for a snack before dinner. What a spread of pride and joy. I ate enough sushi for a horse! Sorry, I love the stuff! In my eyes, it's the only way to eat tuna...in the raw! Yum-yum! Dinner came and everyone went into a coma for the night.
