A beautiful 42 foot fiberglass Sportfisherman Turbo-Diesel. Captain Berle W. Wilson is a real character in all the good ways. True to his word...to what he says and does. A stand up guy...I like that. I really enjoyed talking to him...no bus ride here, you are going fishing and I mean FISHING with a capital "F".

We went out that morning for king mackerel on light gear. Now this is my kind of fishing...Yessss! Only 14 miles to the fishing ground, we got there in about an hour or so. Set up our lines trolling at a very slow speed, bouncing our bally-hoo along the top of the water. No sooner than you could say "Jiminy Cricket" our reels were screaming and these babies were jumping right out of the ocean smacking our bait.

Going for a field goal...yessss...you gotta love it. Everyone on this charter was on sooner or later. The fish ran up to 40 lbs. plus. On light gear it was a real challenge...they could pop the line in a heart beat. Jim Tynan, my photographer for the trip, had a grin on his face from ear to ear, when he hooked. Yours truly was having a blast just watching as everyone limited out. They had to start releasing the king mackerel, after a while.

No sour pusses on this boat. Captain Berle has over 25 years of experience fishing these waters. This is not a part time job for him it's his life and it shows. He is one of the best captains I've had the pleasure to do a story on .

The giant bluefin are moving in off the shores of Hatteras and now is the time to book a date down there. Look, the pictures say it all. I don't need to paint a picture for you. The variety of fish off Hatteras is incredible. It's the best of both waters because of the gulf stream. A grand slam is very possible out here.

By the by, fly fishing for a world record can be set up. Just remember, if that is what you want to do, it will take the entire day. Here are some of the fish count for our trip...Jim McFarland limited out with king mackerel up to 30 lbs...Kay & Mark Smith also limited out with king mackerel up to 30 lbs. So plan a trip for the winter season and be sure to tell them that Dave sent you! You can call for reservations at (919)995-5058.
