The Change of Seasons
November 2, 1998

The crisp November wind is upon us...some say that it's time to pack the rods away...but not for yours truly. This time of year is when the blackfish and giant sea bass are out. Long Island Sound holds some of the largest monster black fish and we will travel out to check out the story this late fall.

The stripers are far from gone, just yet. It 's time to do some eeling in the inlets off of the party boats. There are plenty of cows to be gotten. We will travel to New Jersey for some of the long range giant sea bass trips. It's a short season and the first catch is always the best...so join me and have a ball! Lots of action on these trips...not much time to sit idle...and not an empty bucket to be found. Of course there's always that one fisherman that cannot be help..the "black pearl" of disaster...you know who you are!

And yes, the holy cod...the blessed cod cakes...yum, yum! Hake, cusk, pollack...it's far from over...it's just changing over! We will be heading north to take you steelhead fishing upstate and yes, ice fishing. I'll be giving you a few hot spots to check out, that are well worth a short trip upstate. So sharpen up those ice drills and get ready to have some fun. Get off that couch, your cat thinks that you are part of it! You can stay off of the anti-depressants this winter by getting outside and breathing the fresh winter air...John, check for a heart beat, I think he's still breathing!

And later this year we're off to Key West, Florida and Lake Okeechobee. (Hey there's no reason to freeze all winter.) I'll put some trips together for you that won't cost you your first born. I always remember the kids, there is plenty for them to do...except don't let little Johnny near the gator pond...they're not like feeding the ducks!
So put the shorts away for now and get the thermals out...the sweaters...the gloves...the funny looking hats...the long underware and LET'S GO FISHING!
