Sea bass fishing on the Jamaica long range trips is hot now for monster sea bass. The 18 hour trip is the way to go. Sea bass fishing was no waiting...hit the bottom and reel. Fishing two hundreed feet and better.

The way to go is spider wire...using six feet of forty pound test leader to the rig. You will feel every hit hard on the line. There's no stretch in the line so all you need is a half swing and reel steady...don't jerk the rod. Octopus hook size 4 or 5 is the way to go. The curve of the hooks will set firmly in the jaw of the sea bass, making it quite hard for him to get off on the way up. When hooking your first fish on the line, give it another moment and you'll probably pick up a second fish. The first drop usually picks up the bigger fish right off the bat. So it will be totally set and ready to rock and roll.

Try to bring your own fresh squid...it's like caviar to sea bass. The boat does supply clams, which will do just fine. So my hot tip is move to the Jamaica for some hot jumbo sea bass fishing. Don't drag your feet, I make no promises but right now I will...you may even see a few jumbo porgies.

As for the trip, the day was incredible...flat seas, no wind and a great crowd enjoying Indian winter's warm weather. They were laughing and hauling sea bass. I lost count in all the fish. The bass ran to 5 1/2 pounds. The Captain put us over those wrecks so perfectly that everyone on the boat had a shot at fish. No empty buckets, just alot of smiling happy fishermen!
