Upper Woods, Pennsylvania
Part II
January 6, 1999

Upper Woods is one of the best trout spots to ice fish by far. Secluded with crystal clear, spring fed water. Every trout imaginable is in this lake...brookies, rainbows, browns and even some lake trout.

They have just started allowing live bait to be used in the lake...even though using spikes, grubs and small jigs will produce just fine.

This diagram demonstrates the most productive way I have encountered to ice fish. One split shot 12 inches from a very small trout hook. An eagle razor sharper hook will work great. Drop to the bottom and lift one foot, jigging three times then stop. Drop to the bottom and lift ever so slowly two feet and repeat. If you feel a twitch in the line set hook immediately don't wait for a heavy hit. Chum your hole with some grubs or some corn. Don't over do it, remember you want your bait to be picked up also.
Move around...look for streams.
