(Lots of great photos coming, please be patient.)

Steve is back with those classic cod trips. No disappointments here! The weather made for an interesting trip out, but what's new?! Even with all of the weather reports in the world, the weather in the northeast can change on a dime. I still think that they throw cat bones, twirl around twice and close one eye...then tell the weather with a straight face!

Saturday was a slow start, the winds were coming at us at 35 miles an hour and the wave height was at least 11 feet with one eye closed. But the weather improved and mister whiskers showed his face. It was slamming time and the guys on the boat had been dying for this all winter long. Especially considering there were only 19 of us...ha-ha...where were you?!

My friend Mike, a mate on the Capt. Mike in Howard Beach, and I were laughing at each other. Cod after cod were hitting the dark red and purple jelly worms. There were no disappointments that first day...and by the end of the day you didn't even have to move the jig and they would jump all over it. I call it cod committing hare-kare.

The second day was a classic treat...it doesn't get better than this. We picked away at a few early and then Steve brought out the "birthday cod cake" special wreck...one of his favorite spots. We slammed them real good...well at least everyone else did...I went from hot to cold and heard all the bad jokes coming my way.

But soon I saw what had changed...the guys who were catching fish were now pulling the jigs high. So I went up to the bow and started ripping...bam my rod was doubled over. I went to work slamming those puppies...what a treat. A couple who had never been cod fishing before got ridiculous double-headers, six times in a row!

A southeast blow was coming and Steve held out as long as he could. Within a few hours we easily took on a few hundred cod over the rail. Not shabby! So do I have to spell it out to you die hards...get on the next boat out or complain, complain, complain to yourself about how "I should have been there."

The mates were great, they didn't miss a fish. They were courteous and always helping out. The boat was clean as a whistle. The newly heated bunk room was a treat. Lynn made the classic prime rib with all the trimmings. Make sure that you have an appetite if you want to finish one of Lynn's meals...great lunches and breakfasts as well.

Coolers were loaded and lugged home. Thanks Steve for another great cod trip. One that I won't forget for a long while!
