Bigfish II - Green Harbor, Massachusetts

I've been talking alot about travelling the distance for great fishing trips and that I would only recommend those boats that I field test and know first hand. Well, I finally got out Wednesday when mother nature cooled off and settled down. Geoffrey Lawrence and I had great expectations of hooking mister whiskers by the numbers.

I've heard mixed reports about the Stellwagon Banks...that it had been fished out and alot of yada yada talk. But the government has closed the entire bank down to commercial fishing and is only allowing recreational fishing boats to go out. Within the short time that this has been going on the fish are making a comeback. In the morning we were taking a few cod here and there, nothing to write home about...but just before noon it was hammer time.

What a blast! We'd take a short drift over one of the Captain's spots and everybody was hooked up. No talking here, just pure fishing excitement. We threw back lots of shorts and that is a wonderful sign of new fish coming back in numbers because of the closing of the banks to commercial fishing.

Now don't get me wrong, we caught easily 1000 pounds of fish, kept 500 pounds and threw back the rest. Capt. Tom DePersia has 20 years experience in these waters...experience that you can't buy. So let's talk fishing...my arms are still recuperating! The Bigfish II is heated and supplies all gear from rods to jigs. Just bring your lunch and rock and roll.

The mate was professional and to the point in helping you out to get you back into the action. Not bad...what else would you expect from the Captain's daughter. I would not bet against her in a fishing contest by far...unless you like losing your money! The other fishermen on the boat really new their stuff, they included Capt. Lou Franco, Steve Franco, Capt. Scott Prouty, Dwayne Prouty and Geoffrey Lawrence.

I highly recommend making a two day trip out of this and renting their house on the water. Relax and enjoy your time there. Plenty of good restaurants to eat at and New England's charm. A real fisherman's choice! Thanks for a great fishing experience! Dave
