I can not put into exact words how good the fishing was. But I'll give it a shot. I know some of you think, "Dave is exaggerating", but I personally caught at least 36 fluke, a bunch of primo fluke, 3lbs. and better.

George Jehn, who had joined me on this nice day, was laughing at how good the fishing was. There was a slump going on in fluke fishing on the south shore, but it has gotten red hot. There are prime fish for the picking.

The Bubba captain was on the dot with the spots where we were fishing, he took us out in the ocean off Jones Beach State Park. No bus ride today! All the customers were slamming away at jumbo fluke. This is a prime spot to use silver bullets with a teaser.

Tip: Go into our "Special Reports" archive and go over how to use the bullet for the best productivity. With the bullet try not to go over four ounces, and put on a nice long strip of fluke fillet with skin along, with one nice spearing. You can also use a sea robin fillet or even a bluefish fillet strip. The teaser should be a white and green backtail 14 inches above the bullet. On the bucktail, no more than just a single spearing, that's it no strip necessary. Keep the ball close jigging no more than 6 inches off the bottom. Jig 5 times then let it sit. Keep the tip close to the water, line tight, no slack. When you get a bump, slam it. Keep the tension on and have a ball (no pun intended).

The Bubba is a great boat for fluke fishing. I give it my Gold Star for a real fisherman's boat. The boat had at least 70 mama fluke keepers and yes, over 200 throw backsand then some. So move your butts and get on the Bubba. They sail every morning at 7:30 AM for fluke ($28) and from 4:30 to 8:30 PM for weakfish ($17). Have a blast! And remember where you heard about it.
