We all get busy...sometimes too busy even for friends. I guess that's how life goes sometimes. But my son, Michael, always comes first. I love my son and enjoy his company more than most so called adults. Michael is all of ten years old and wanted something with a little more kick than fluke. So he loves bluefishing...heck a bluefish to him is like catching a tuna! You know how kids can be impatient waiting for the fish to bite.

So we get to the Mud Buoy and one of the customers hooks up a false albacore...and then a second later another person pulls up a small yellowfin tuna. "Dad get one of those!" One was caught jigging the other was caught on light line and a spearing and the blues are hitting bunker chunks on wire leader. I've got three rods with three different rigs and I'm hooking the big zero. My son looks at me and says, "what's up?" I look at him, give him a few bucks and say, "go buy some candy...I'll work on this."
I decided to stick to the bluefish...wire leader and half ounce barrel sinker. Of course as soon as Michael goes in the cabin I hook up big time...line screaming out. I'm calling my son's name but he can't hear me. So I give the rod to my friend and tell him to hold it while I get my son. So I'm running all pumped up and slide on a butter fish, falling flat on my butt...a definate safe at home plate steel...Ouch! I grab my son give him the rod and he's having a blast. You had to see him battle this fish. I managed to keep that one fish to the front of the boat and we pulled him in...an easy 10 pound bluefish.

What does my son say, "get another one"...and we did until we limited out. Everybody had fish...the back of the boat loaded up big time and the poor mates needed rollerskates to keep up with all the gaffing, tangles and impatient customers. What a trip! The bluefishing has been great and for your sons and daughters it's a real blast. Michael had a great time. I know this because he fell asleep up in the Captain's room on my chest like a bear. I needed a mirror under his nose just to see if he was still breathing.

Geoffrey Lawrence from "The Fishermen" did a bang up job as you can see from these pictures. Our big old cooler was filled to the rim...and I was a happy father to see my son all lit up and proud of himself. Doesn't get better than that I'll tell you. Take your children out and share the experience with them. It's what fishing is all about. Have a good time and have some fun. Don't get all serious on me...the world is serious enough. Fishing time is your time out. Go and enjoy!

The Brooklyn V is a fishing machine and it's fast. No wasting fishing time...steam right to the spot. Lots of galley room and a big boat. Some of the best fishing is coming up as the weather cools down a little so we're far from over. The Brooklyn V will start doing tuna trips this coming weekend. Don't miss out! Be sure to call and make your reservations at (718)743-8464. (Tell them that Dave sent you!) There are plenty of fish out there this year. The best I've seen in four years. The yellowfin are running...with some nice big eyes and true jumbo albacore. So why are you sitting on your big butt as King Couch Potato...GO...get out or the wife will find some chores for you. Or worse make you visit the relatives...ouch...shoot me now!
