Shinnecock Star

March 21, 2000

Okay, time to check out what is real and what is bull. Went down to the Shinnecock Star to see if the flounders were really on the bite. Woke up to a nice northeast, stiff wind. The weather was dark and and dizzling. Doesn't stop me...off I went with my good friend Ted.

The fish were biting good when we first started but we miss the closing of the gates on the dock. Add a full moon tide and 30 knot winds and you've got tough fishing conditions. Raw is the best word. But John and Neil prevailed by locking us on their favourite spots. 90 percent of the flounders were huge 2 pounder.

We got over 30 fish in four hours, not shabby considering all the conditions were against us. Translation: under better circumstances, we definitely could have doubled that number for sure. So don't worry about gear. The weather will break in the next few days to 60 degrees, so you don't have to put on artic gear.
