Well nothing lasts forever...even those stinky, fishing sneakers you have on. Flounder fishing in Jamaica Bay is down to a pick with quality, chubby, fat, juicy flounders. Not a lot by far. My son Mikey caught one that was almost three pounds on Capt. Mike's in Howard Beach and took the pool hands down. The weather has improved dramatically, thank God. For a minute there I thought we were in the twilight zone of the endless winter. But spring has found us or is it summer?

The blue fish, stripers, and weakfish have entered Jamaica Bay and the flounders are a little hesitant to stick their heads out of the sand or mud. If they do, they're lunch. Oh yeah, the fluke are also in the bays. Looks like the season is just about to break out like a thirteen year old's acne. Hallelujah, praise the Lord. Excuse me while I do the Irish jig on winter's head, good riddance sucker!

Fluke season opens up on May 10th. This is a no brainer. The Great South Bay will be loaded up big time. Jamaica Bay will be cooking, and Montauk (don't miss out on this one) last year for two weeks, there were monsters coming in early May. As for Mattetuck, last year was not the greatest, but this is a new year and mother nature will spell it out. Look for the squid coming in, the doormats are right behind them. So grease up your reels, start planning "hooky" days and put a smile on that gray, pasty face. Where to go first? Take your pick...it's a Long Island smorgasbord.
