"In Search of the Monster Fluke" Part II

Marlin V
May 23, 2000

Well guys, it's the second day that I'm out on my search...it's overcast and alittle on the cool side and today I am in Montauk. We only had five guys and needed a sixth to take out the Marlin for a full day. The five of us came up with a solution, to each chip in to make up for the sixth fare and off we went. By the by, these big boats use up alot of fuel and the Captain and mates need to get paid, so on these slow days the boat loses money to keep you fishermen happy. My hat is off to you Captains, for when you do this it shows real dedication to your customers.

Anyway, it was like having a private charter on a 65 foot party boat with only five fishermen. You couldn't beat this with a stick. Heaven! It was a slow pick in the morning with a few decent fish coming up. When we made a move down and around the Lighthouse toward Hither Hills beaches, we came into fluke heaven. One after another and the sizes where getting better the further we went down the beach. My brother, Mark, had a nice 4 pounder and a couple of 3 pounders. Yours truly slammed the living daylights out of them in numbers to 5 pounds. One after another for over an hour and a half. It was stupid fishing! They wanted nice meaty strips with a little steak sauce.

My arm is fluked out, I kid you not, where's the Motrin?! The seas where fantastic. No rain...no wind...no snow...Thank you Saint Peter. Mark and I limited out and threw back a dozen and more keepers. Who needs a stinking net, we just swung them in...unless it was a nice puppy and then we waited for the net. I'm on the search for that double digit puppy...here puppy...here puppy!

I definately recommend the Marlin V's full day trip to get to those places that are off the beaten path and take a little more time to get to. It was a four star fluke day for numbers.
