"Raising Your Children"

I'm no Dr. Spock, nor do I have a degree in child development, but there are certain basic realities that are cold hard facts. When I see families all together fishing, it's not how many fish they catch, it's the experience that they are sharing together. Taking your kid with you and showing him or her the ropes whether YOU think it was a bad or a good time, THEY'LL remember it forever. And they'll learn that they can have fun in healthy ways. Trust me on this, leave them alone every weekend without your guidance and they'll make their own rules and your's will be nothing but lip service.

Start when they are runts. Fishing is a great sport to share with children. They'll learn quikcly and be out fishing you in no time. Then the kids will be dragging YOU out to go fishing. Long Island has so many different places to go, it's easy to switch things up. You can take a boat rental for two. It's a bit of work but it's definately a lot of fun finding your own fishing holes.

Leave your work at work...and the bill signing worries for when you get home. That's your little girl with you Dad, your flesh and blood. The boys are your friends, but your children are the gold and jewels of your life. Drugs and booze is not something to share with children...period. If your teenager needs a rush bring them sky diving. That'll give them an adrenalin high they won't forget. Let them learn rock climbing.

All I'm saying is, take your children with you and share the good stuff. The bad things will find their own way in, but they'll have your tools to help work them out. I come from a family of 10...seen it...done it.
