In Search of Smoked Lox in the Dead Sea

June 25-July 6, 2000

You know, doing alittle research goes a long way...
so fishing in the Dead Sea didn't produce too much. All my bait kept floating to the top. Weather conditions were a little rough...105 degrees in the shade. One good thing...you don't need a boat, simply float out a mile or two on your back and whatever you do don't let the water get in your eyes! I tried renting a few camels and trolling in the desert for fluke, but no luck.

So I ran to the Sea of Gallilee and did a little research on St. Peter, but my rod melted on the shoreline. I did, however find some giant catfish in the Jordan River swimming around the baptismal area.

This was my vacation in Israel with my wife and family. I'm back in the states now bubbaleh, but even with the lack of fishing I had a very interesting trip. The Old City of Jerusalem is an absolutely incredible place to go once in a lifetme. Words just fall short in describing it. Religious or not religious, it's a very emotional and moving holy place for all.

Hasn't changed much in a few thousand years...as these pictures show (except for the Internet Cafe of course!) There is alot of confusion between all of the religious sectors, but it still survives as one of the holiest places on earth.

I didn't care too much for Tel Aviv, but the rest of Israel has it's own beauty and magic to itself. As for fishing in the Mediteranean, it's a hard pick for sure. The water is a wee bit too warm.

The things I do to get some fishing luck recharged, anyway that's where I was. So enjoy some travel photos, it's not a fishing story, but it was a hell of a trip. By the way, I went to a small wedding while I was there (my wife's cousin) of over 400 people, it was held on a giant deck overlooking the sea.

Hey do you smell that? Sniff, sniff...I smell tuna! That's right tuna reports have been dripping in. Tuna on the troll...have to go get the skinny. See ya!
