Brooklyn VI: Going the Distance

July 17, 2000

I have to tell you that not all captains are the same. Some would be happy to give you the tourist run around, take your money and send you off packing.

Capt. Robert of the Brooklyn VI goes straight to the fish, period. Right now the bluefish are 30 miles out. So if you want some real bluefish and not snappers or bluefish wearing diapers. Get on the Brooklyn VI for some good old fishing. Jigging was the way to go this day. Straight to the bottom and a fast retrieve or my favorite way...jig it up four feet from the bottom and let it fall back down and repeat. You'll get a lot of hits on the drop. Follow your line down by keeping your thumb on the spool and when you feel the line go light smack it hard. It's a lot of fun.

Cripple herring lures work really well because they flutter on the way down. Blues and Stripers love this lure. Even weakfish love it. Twenty pound test is good for this kind of fishing, but with 30 pound test you can lift the fish directly into the boat. You don't need no stinking gaff. Leave the gaff for a 14 pound crocodile blue.

The Brooklyn's new engine gets you to the grounds in half the time, which means more time for fishing. I like fishing in the day time for blues, they give you a great fight for the money and 10 fish is more than enough fish for the fridge.

Tight lines and God bless to all fishermen.

P.S. Rob when are we going tuna fishing? I'm ready dude! Nothing like a smoking reel.
(Go bug Robert for an early trip.)
