Ahhhhh...the
smoking days of blitzes are just around the corner, yesterday we saw the
tell tales signs. The sound has been in the dog days of summer sluggish
and the fish have been spotty if best at times. Not anymore. Capt. Steve
Fallon and I got out at 5:30 AM Thursday...dead low tide plenty of time
to set up at one of his favorite spots. I brought along a great video editor,
Guy Mellitz, who will be helping me with "ScreamingReelTV' (stay tuned)...yesterday
he was just there to fish. We got to talking over how things should start
heating up in the Sound any day now, when one of the rods just started singing
"God Bless America" in a high note.

Of
course we gave the rod to our new comer on the boat and was
he in for a surprise! It was a monster blue...how big, was becoming obvious
based on the line that he was not giving back. When he finally got this
stubborn bluefish close to the boat, he jumped four feet clear out of the
water...all four feet of him! Yikes...Steve's eyes bugged out as he pulled
the fish into the boat. This fish was easily 17 pounds or better. The largest
bluefish caught this year on the Swedish Princess. A few minutes later an
11 pounder came up, then a 13 pounder, then a 12 pounder...not shabby!

Then the luck of the Italians hit me. My line started walking against the
tide toward me. Not running, but walking. I reeled up all of the slack and
lifted the rod ever so gently to se who was on the other end. I know this
bite, sp I slammed the rod hard and it bent over thumping away like a really
big doormat does. It was a fluke close to 8 pounds...my biggest personal
fluke this year. I did the Irish Jig around the boat, hugged Steve and said
this was a four star day. All our fish were quality.

Be sure to book your trip now...I smell that this is the beginning of a good run to come. Thanks a million Steve!
