"Bay on Fire"
Capt. Mike - Howard Beach

It's that time of season...the season of the "Cherry Bomb Blitz"...when the water boils and the birds fill the air diving and crashing the water. It brings a tear of joy to every fishermen's eye. Small tin jigs are the ticket...just throw and jig..or 5 quick retrieves from the bottom, let fall and then repeat. It is a no brainer.

Today was just what the fishing doctor ordered. I blasted fish for an hour and a half. People on Capt. Mike's boat had weakfish to 5 lbs. and bluefish to 8 lbs...it was non-stop! Poor Tony needed rollerskates to take off all those fish. While Capt. Mike kept us right on the fish. I wanted to do a little popper fishing, but never got off the rail...how sweet it is!

The false albacore and bonita have been crashing right outside the bay on the jetty. Spearing is the way to go for bait. Make sure that your reel has a load of line because you will be kissing it good bye in a heart beat. Use light line and loosen your drag.

So this is the Hot Report: The Bay is on fire and it won't last forever. Sheepshead Bay and Howard Beach are the ticket if you love down and dirty fishing...or you can go somewhere else and complain...shoulda, coulda, woulda.
