"Jumbo Bass & Blues to Go"
Marlin VI - MontaukMay 31, 2001

7AM on Eddy's boat means only one thing...time to jig up a cow! Right off the bat the birds were going crazy as the bluefish tore up the waters off the front of the Lighthouse.
Rules of the Game.
The blues tear the baitfish to ribbons on top of the water. The bait leftover drops to the bottom. Big fat bass on bottom get free meal and need to go on weight loss program!Reel your jig in fast and get a bluefish. But if you let it hit bottom, then reel 8 times and let it fall...reel 8 times and repeat...hold on tight...this is the Carmine Rule to catch a nice, fat bass. Big bass over 30 pounds came over the rail.
The winds were blowing from the depths of hell and guys... it was cold! 48 degrees in the morning on the last day of May! I had a sweater on and my skins, but I forgot my mittens! Someone tell me where the heck is summer? You know...shorts, T-shirts, ice cold beer, light breeze...not happening this day! The bass must have thought it was October...I kid you not!
Eddy stuck with the bass and bluefish for the majority of the full day trip. The fluke off of Hither Hills had lockjaw due to the many days of east wind, which really turned the waters brown. They are full of sand. The weather pattern for now seems to have changed to westerly winds, so by Sunday the water should be smoking for some good fat fluke to go.
But some in the mean time, some big fat blues and stripers will do just fine, especially this size. Thanks Ed for some good fishing, as always...
