Where are the Fluke?

Capt. Mike - Howard Beach

Hey, I won't lie...where were the jumbo fluke? There's been maybe one here, maybe one there, but nothing to write home about for sure. But just a few days back a nice size school moved in. Quality size fluke...I smell some real nice doormats around.

Mike took us outside the inlet to the tin can grounds. I personally picked up one nice 5 lb. fluke, two 3 pounders and 2 one pounders...and threw back 4...not a shabby day. I must have dropped a dozen or better.

The fish are there...and it's the same old story...you'll need a silver bullet with a blue bucktail to catch them...add to the show a fresh meat strip...sea robin will do just fine, the white belly is the best bet.

Mikey and Tony don't play...they fish...and CATCH fish. No four hour drifts here over barren grounds. Mike wouldn't stand for it. He doesn't follow others, he hunts around the areas. "We're hunting fluke, so be vewy, vewy qwiet!" ...and he produces. Hey, if I can catch four nice pups anyone can! Then again, there's my brother-in-law John...he's the black pearl of fishing. If you ever see him get on a boat, leave. Run and don't look back. Beyond that, there is good fishing to be had.
