They were as silent as little lambs. They sipped tea and ate crumpets...NOT!
They were boys having a good time fishing...most of them for the first time. Horsing around and getting a small taste of the sport. You could see who was going to be the fisherman. The mates did all they could do. Of course there are those who grumble under their breath "dang kids should stay in corners and be quiet". I look at these men and see them when they were children...definately hell raisers. That one was probably tossing cherry bombs into garbage pails...get the drift! We were all kids at one time. Open your eyes and ears and you'll hear that the sounds coming from them are the sames sounds that you and your friends made when you were a kid. Maybe you're grumpy because you miss the fun! Put your rod down and spend some time with them.
Of course there are always a few that get seasick it wouldn't be an outing if one of them didn't get sick. This one guy was feeling a wee bit green in flat waters, but he kept fishing and trying to catch one... now that's a real fisherman. You gotta love the kids.
The galley was hopping...sodas and the smell of hot buttered popcorn. I give credit to the parents who take these kids out on these trips. My hat is off to you brave parents.
All in all a perfect trip, with a few tangles here and there that should be expected. The mates did a great job and a few fish were caught. A giant skate came up and they were blown away. A sea robin got them going...it didn't take much. Once they saw a nice 4 lb. fluke, they never left the rail.
The Sea Queen is an excellent family boat and great for groups. They'll always work with you to make it a nice day. Not a bad day all in all. Check out a few bruisers that came aboard, especially this huge black fish.
Take some kids fishing and loosen up your tight belt. They are our jewels.
