Steve gave me a call a few nights ago..."Dave, get your butt out here, we're killing the blues." I was sarcastic, "Sure you are." "I'm telling you the honest truth," he said. "Well," I said, "Let's hook up and put the proof to the pudding."
I got up and it was 5 o'clock and 88 degrees outside. Talk about hot...this is ridiculous. I headed out to the truck and loaded up. Picked up Tommy Gunn and off we went.
The sound was like glass. The sky orange and hazey. The boat cut through the water like a hot knife through butter.
A few boats were already in our spot, but no one was on. This was not a good thing to see. Steve said, "just wait the blues will be here."
All of a sudden I heard rain on the water, coming our way. One problem, it wasn't raining, the sun was just below the horizon, so we couldn't see that far out. The water exploded around us with bunker making a mad dash for it. My heart lit up...we had four lines out with fresh bunker. They all went off at once. Bluefish fire drill. We got three out of the four and dropped one. This was just the start of an incredible morning.
