"Johnny Bag O' Fish"

Royal Sunshine - Sheepshead Bay
December, 2001

Every once in a while some strange things get caught on a line. Like today, we were fishing on the Royal Sunshine and this dude is pulling up dead weight, rod bent in half. Slowly he pulls up his mystery catch. Up comes a nylon mech bag. The first mate gaffs the bag and pulls it into the boat. The mech bag has over 20 live blackfish inside with a few keepers the rest were throw backs. Not bad for first hook up in the morning. You get half your limit in one hook. What's the rule for that I wonder. I guess some poachers saw the constable coming and threw over the evidence. Go figure.

Anyway, blackfishing the reef was a medium draw of Mister Blackie. He was just picking at the bait but not aggressively, so your trigger finger had to be on the quick draw. Some fish in the 3 to 4 pound range came aboard...not shabby. Many had to work hard to get their limit.

There was plenty of room to move around, no elbow to elbowon top of one another. A smooth ride and warm temps made for a great day on the water.

Great service as always. Bait that was alive and fresh. A mate always within calling distance for the net and curtious service. One little comment on our guru the weather man. The forecast was for winds to 20 miles and out of the southwest. 100 percent fog and zero visibility along with heavy rain showers.

Okie-dokie. No wind. No fog and no rain does this dude live in a cement room with no windows or what. Get real little doggies and get a life.
