"Flounder Gangs"
Shinnecock Star
April 2002

“Ya know Joey Two-fingers, us flounders have to stick together. This canal is ours, if those fluke move in on us we'll have to take them out. Show them there's no floundering with us. Keep an upper stiff fin by the lock's door. Act like you're holding a loaded crab behind your back when those ocean gangs head our way. And Joey, watch out for that Shinnecock Star... yeh-yeh... that John and Neil they'll be cruising our neighborhood. You know Joey, they took out Carmine and Zito's gang last week. Yeh, I heard they got filleted, so don't be sucking up to any two-face mussel and keep off of those sandworms Joey.”

Fishing down by Shinnecock has not been an all out gang rub out, but the area has been giving up some nice flounder. The game plan is lots of chum and patience. Put your time in and put a few in the bucket. Combos have been the trick...mussels and a small piece of sandworm. Personally mussels have the upper hand. When fishing the canal don't be bouncing too much or you'll be getting hung up big time. Trust me boys the bottom of that canal has more artificial structure than you want to know about. Down right scarey! But it is and always will be flounder city. The temperature bouncing up and down...and the full moon tides have not been too kind. As we get off the moon, over the next week, and rising temperatures with a little spring sun to warm those waters, we will get the flounders on the move. So keep it tight and thing will rock.

P.S. The Shinnecock Star should be called ahead of time for reservations, or you will be left at the dock.
