Surfcasting - Montauk

Saturday & Sunday, May 24 & 25, 1997

Well, this Memorial weekend my family and I went camping in Montauk at Hither Hills. I stopped in at Johnny's Tackle Store to ask his wife for a good spot to try near the camp site. She put me on a real honey hole. My wife, Robin, nailed a 13 lb. gorilla blue that took her for a ride. My seven year old son, Michael, took a nice 6 lb. blue...and yours truly caught two blues to 8 lbs. We were tired from the long ride out there and packed it in and went to see the great firework display at the lighthouse. The following morning, I got up early and shot down to the same spot. Well, let's put it this way, all hell broke loose. I got stripped on the first bite and my heart stopped.

What ever was on the end of that line had had it's wheaties! My other pole had bait on it and it got slam dunked...I ran over and fought this fish along the small waves for 10 minutes and had a smile from ear to ear, when I slid him on a wave into the foam...bear hugged him and threw him onto the sand. Yes, a nice cow, the first one weighed in at Johnny's this year...e-mail me and guess the weight. If you guess correctly, I'll tell you the spot where I caught it!
