Follow up to Hatteras

July 11, 1998

I find the greatest enjoyment in watching others catch their dream fish and the pure enjoyment that fishing brings. It beats drugs...the high is for a lifetime...and it's a healthy sport for the spirit in us all. There are those magical moments in fishing that come when you put your time in.

The blitz down by the surf, when you haul fish in until your arms are down to your knee caps...or a tuna blitz when the crowd is screaming for mercy...or being hooked onto a fish you've been chasing for years and he's on the end of your line. Doesn't get any better! I had the pleasure of getting this letter and these photos of me, from Tom Frillici, one of the fishermen on the Harpers Folly trip. You gotta love it!

"Dave,

What a great article about our Marlin Blowout!
The pictures are tremendous. I was concentrating
so hard on cranking that fish in and trying to gather
every last bit of strength I had to land that Marlin,
that I barely recall those magnificent jumps and dancing shots.

At the time you handed me the rod, I had no idea that you
were on an 8 year quest to land a Marlin. I don't know
what to say to thank you for giving me a life long memory -
and one hell of a fish story to tell!"

Tight lines,
Tom
